Rancho Cordova is one of the incorporated cities in the greater Sacramento area, bordered by Arden-Arcade and the American River on the west, Gold River and Fair Oaks on the northwest, Mather Airport on the south, and Lake Natoma and Folson on the northeast.
Rancho Cordova's history goes back to the Gold Rush days, where some of the first stretch of railroad was laid in California. Originally named for the Cordova Vineyard, the are got it's permanent name when the city's first Post Office was opened in 1950. On July 1st, 2003, Rancho Cordova was incorporated. In 2010, the city annexed another 1.2 square miles of commercial-zoned land south of US 50. Today, about 70,000 people live in Rancho Cordova. Some of the major employers in Rancho Cordova are the State of California, Delta Dental, VSP Global, the Sacramento County Office of Education and two aerospace companies.
